Frequently Asked Questions about the Ashgard Campaign

I have gone to much trouble via the installation instructions, readme text files, and this FAQ to make sure people have online resources to ensure maximum enjoyment of the XWA add-ons at this site. As a user of the Ashgard Campaign, you are responsible for reading and applying the information that is provided to you. Do not E-mail me with questions that already have answers in the resources provided to you including in this FAQ. Such E-mails will be ignored or if youre lucky, quick reply will tell you where to find the answer yourself. E-mails with questions not covered in the materials provided to you are welcome.

  1. Question:

Why are the cockpit and exterior OPTs of some fighters like the TIE Phantom, GT and Advancedx1 not included in the Ashgard Campaign shipset

Answer:

Any craft that are not flown by the player in the campaign do not have cockpit or exterior OPTs included. This is to keep file size to a minimum. If you must have the cockpits and exteriors for the craft that have them, just download them yourself. Darksabers X-wing Station will probably have most of the cockpit and exterior files that you are looking for.

  1. Question:

Will the older single missions at Abolishers Mission Command Outpost work with the Ashgard Campaign shipset

Answer:

No. Those missions were built a long time ago and were balanced with the default game stats. If you wish to play those missions, you need to use them with a version of XWA that has not been patched with the Ashgard Campaign shipset.

  1. Question:

Now that the Battle of Yavin missions are included with the Ashgard Campaign, will there ever be a separate Battle of Yavin Shipset as originally planned

Answer:

The answer is, I dont know. If Ace Antilles or someone else were to provide the movie sounds that were planned for the original shipset, I would be interested making a separate shipset for the Battle of Yavin. Otherwise, Im not sure if or when this will happen because with the focus on the Ashgard Campaign, a separate Battle of Yavin shipset is really a low priority, if at all.

  1. Question:

Does the Ashgard Campaign Shipset include the XWAUP OPTs If not, will the XWAUP OPTs work with this shipset Will installing XWAUP OPTs mess up the shipset

Answer:

No, the shipset does not include the XWAUP OPTs, generally speaking. The one exception is the inclusion of the TIE Advancedx1. However, the patch for this shipset sets the POVs as they are for the XWAUP flyable craft. That means you will have to install, at the minimum, all Alliance XWAUP starfighters with their cockpits and you will have to get them from the X-wing Alliance Upgrade or Darksabers X-wing Station. All other XWAUP craft are optional and will have to be installed by you independent of this shipset. Since the patch covers the craft stats for all XWAUP craft, all you need to do it place any XWAUP craft of your choice in the FLIGHTMODELS folder and it will work. Read the instructions for installation for further details.

  1. Question:

The missions in the Ashgard shipset work great except for the planetary missions. Faces in the planet surface OPTs disappear at certain angles and I want to know how to fix this.

Answer:

Unfortunately, you will have to fly those missions with the game resolution set at 640 x 480 to mitigate this problem. I know a lot of people dont like this and will complain about it, but that is just the way it is. If you still have problems when using 640 x 480 resolution, I dont have an answer. You might try the forums at the X-wing Alliance Upgrade for answers.

  1. Question:

I already have a customized XWA installed on my computer. I want to play the Ashgard Campaign with all of its modified craft stats, but I also want to keep my personally customized XWA to play when I want to.

Answer:

This is easy to do. Before installing the Ashgard Campaign, rename your XwingAlliance folder to anything you want, just as long as the name changes. You might name it to something intuitive like MyXwingAlliance or something similar. This will cause the XWA launcher to think the game is not installed because it cant find the XWA folder under the old name. Reinstall XWA and then apply the 2.02 patch from LEC. Then install the Ashgard Campaign according to the instructions. Now you can play which ever version you wish by renaming the folders. Whichever folder is named XwingAlliance is the one that will be used the next time you launch XWA.
